Big6 and Plant Life Story Project: Follow these 6 steps to plan, research, create & evaluate your project.

1. Task Definition

What is my assignment?

What information do I need to create my story?

2. Information Seeking Strategies

Brainstorm a possible list of sources you can use to get the information you need to create your story.

3. Location & Access

Where are the sources listed in Step 2 located?

(Suggested online resources: DISCUS: Britannica online and Kids Infobits, World Book Online
and Discovery Education)

How will I find the information I need within the sources?
Create a list of keywords to help you in your search within your sources.

4. Use of Information

Read, view and/or listen to the sources you find.

How will I record the information that I find? Hint: when taking notes- think like a caveman.

How will I give credit to my sources?
Use these tools to help cite your sources in MLA format:
EasyBib
citation_handout_for_bms.doc
The Owl at Purdue

5. Synthesis

Organize your information and plan your project.

Decide if you will create a plant story book with illustration, a story book with images in PowerPoint, write a skit & act out, create a poster with illustrations or some other creative story format!

6. Evaluation

Before turning in your assignment, compare it to your teacher's requirements (grading rubric).

For example:

  • Did you do and include everything that was required?
  • Did you give credit to all of your sources, and did you write it the way your teacher requested?
  • Is your work neat?
  • Would you be proud for anyone to view this work?
